Connecting Generations at Boclair Care Home
Boclair Care Home’s intergenerational activities continue to bring warmth, laughter and meaningful companionship to residents, through our much-loved “Little Buddies” programme alongside the local nursery.
The regular visits have become a true highlight for residents and staff alike, creating special moments that encourage connection across generations. In recent sessions, the children introduced residents to some of their favourite activities, including a very special Bookbug session to celebrate World Book Day. The children brought along treasured toys and storybooks from home, which filled our home with smiles and conversation.
One of the most memorable moments came with the "sleeping bunnies" game, which residents found particularly hilarious, with giggles spreading throughout the room as everyone joined in the fun. These relaxed and joyful sessions continue to create a welcoming atmosphere where both residents and children feel comfortable, valued and engaged.
Intergenerational activities create meaningful connections between residents and children, helping residents feel connected to their wider community while reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation. The sessions also provide residents with a sense of purpose and self-worth, particularly when sharing life experiences, stories and skills with the younger generation. Many residents living with dementia find the activities especially soothing and engaging, with reminiscence opportunities helping to encourage cognitive stimulation and social interaction.
The programme also offers important benefits for the children, helping them develop communication skills, confidence and respect for older generations, while encouraging a more inclusive and understanding outlook.
