Building Confidence At Boclair – Margaret’s Story

When Margaret first moved into Boclair Care Home back in July 2023, her family were apprehensive and unsure whether she would settle in to her new surroundings. Margaret is 85 and has always been a quiet lady, often preferring her own company to a bustling communal setting. However, much to the delight of her loved ones and our care team, Margaret only took a few months to become the life and soul of our Glasgow care home. With just some gentle encouragement, she began attending activities and leaving her cosy bedroom more often, and Margaret now loves to sing and get involved at every party and activity she can get to.

Unfortunately, in August 2025, Margaret had a fall resulting in a hospital admission and she became very unwell. During this difficult time, Margaret’s family asked for her to be transferred back to Boclair, in the surroundings where she felt most at home and with familiar staff that she knew to look after her. Following surgery and a short stay in hospital, Margaret thankfully returned to our care home and we were delighted to welcome her back.

Supporting Recovery at Every Step

On return to Boclair, Margaret was very frail, fearful and immobile. However, with help from a brilliant physiotherapist and occupational therapist, as well as plenty of reassurance and encouragement from our compassionate care team, we managed to get Margaret back on her feet and mobile again.

Six months following her fall, Margaret is up and about using her wheeled walking aid and has returned to her usual vibrant self, lighting up every room she enters in our care home. We’re so pleased that Margaret loves it at Boclair and that she is happy and content. Her family are delighted to see her back to the lively woman that brings such a joyful energy to life in our home.

“We always pride ourselves in working closely with the Multidisciplinary Team, seeing the achieved outcome of Margaret regaining her mobility and her general health improving, resulting in her being back to being the life and soul of the care home was a great success for all involved and shows how collaborative working can have a positive impact on someone’s life”. - Laura, Deputy Manager at Boclair Care Home
